The 9-song 1975 Total Explosion was Syl Johnson's most succeful album at Hi Records (Al Green, Ann Peebles) and was one of the best in the label's catalogue. The album's biggest single was Johnson's slowed-down version of Al Green's "Take me to the River". The album also featured Syl himself on harmonica and guitar.
