Brand new 4K restoration of the film by the Czech National Film Archive. Vojtech Jasny's autobiographical masterpiece was completed just before the 1968 Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia. Honoured at the 1969 Cannes Film Festival, the film was quickly banned by the authorities and Jasny forced into exile. A potent reminder of lives and idealism lost under totalitarian rule, Jasny's epic is now acknowledged as a pronounced influence on films such as Haneke's White Ribbon and Reitz's Heimat. The DVD release also includes Jasny's 1969 short film Bohemian Rhapsody.
