A 1971 concept album about (Gainsbourg's own) lust for a titular teen heroine. Histoire de Melody Nelson is perhaps Gainsbourg's most coherent and perfectly realised studio album (with the immense help of arranger Jean-Claude Vannier). Gainsbourg's muse Jane Birkin's contribution with her moaning, singing and giggling on the album is indispensable also. You don't need to understand French to love this album.
