From Gabriel Mascaro, director of the award-winning Neon Bull and The Blue Trail, recent winner of the Silver Bear at the 2025 Berlin Film Festival.
In this dystopian vision of a future Brazil, Joana lives a fervent spiritual life dedicated to the Church of Divine Love. She is a loyal bureaucrat who tries to ‘save’ struggling couples from divorce. But, in a society where a woman’s destiny is defined by motherhood, she is unable to conceive and so prays for a miracle.
Divine Love is a prescient, sexually provocative satire, exploring how political power manipulates sex and spirituality. The erotic and playful aspect to this damaged, neon-hued future society, is offset by a chilling authenticity - making a timely commentary on the conservative, fanatical and nationalist agendas currently prevalent and the choices we have to reject or succumb to them.
Divine Love is presented from a director-approved 4K transfer.
Our region-free Blu-ray also includes a filmed interview with director Gabriel Mascaro, plus a booklet with new writing on the film by Little White Lies editor David Jenkins, plus Mascaro's statement on the film and a discussion with him in print.
